Stout
The Stout was traditionally a stronger full-bodied variety of a porter, called a “stout porter” or “stouter”, but soon emerged as its own very popular style. While the distinction between a stout and porter is still a little confusing, the stout is, generally speaking, a fuller-bodied, stronger, and darker beer with strong coffee or burnt caramel flavors. Stouts, much like coffee for many folks, is an acquired flavor. It is a beer to be sipped and savored, not pounded back on a hot summer day.

Breckenridge, Nitro Irish Stout

Edge, Blackwater

Goose Island, Bourbon County Stout

Iron Horse, Quilter's Irish Death Stout

Warfield Brewing, Canary's Casket
-
Breckenridge, Nitro Irish Stout
- ABV: 4.8%
- IBU: 38

Brewed with roasted Irish barley for a rich malty flavor, the memorable, sensory nature of Nitro Irish Stout nods to the welcoming adventure that our home state’s all about.
-
Edge, Blackwater
- ABV: 11%
- IBU: 78
- Style: Stout
Taste Profile:
Blackwater is not for your average beer drinker. Impossibly dark, thick and flavorful, with complex malt flavors of molasses, baker's chocolate and espresso, with a slightly pine finish
-
Goose Island, Bourbon County Stout
- ABV: 13.8%
- IBU: 60
- Style: Barrel Aged Imperial Stout
- Availability: Limited Release
Taste Profile:
Brewed in honor of the 1000th batch at our original Clybourn brewpub. A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer.
-
Iron Horse, Quilter's Irish Death Stout
- ABV: 7.8%
- IBU: 12
- Style: Stout
Taste Profile:
Created by the brewery’s founder, Quilter’s Irish Death is what we call a dark, smooth, ale. Any attempt at classifying it just ends up sending beer geeks into a style guidelines diatribe. So forget style guidelines. Is your pursuit of micro beer about tasting copies of a style that fit guidelines or about finding shit that tastes good? We lovingly refer to Irish Death as beer candy. While tempting to session this beer, the name is a necessary reminder that despite the surprising approachability, this beer weighs in at a hefty 7.8% ABV.
-
Warfield Brewing, Canary's Casket
- ABV: 9%
- IBU: 21
- Style: Stout
Taste Profile:
Our Miner’s Canary stout has been given new life and a new cask(et) for long term rest. Dark and rich in flavor, we’ve emboldened our traditional dry stout and aged it for over 6 months in used bourbon barrels. It is potent with deep caramel, cacao, and Turkish coffee notes. It’s a beer meant to be savored by the fire.
